The first step in pursuing a college education, other than actually deciding what field you would like to pursue is, what college will you attend? There are colleges in just about every major city of the United States, but not all colleges were created equal. You would not attend an auto body school when you are pursuing an education as a chef would you? No, of course not. You would attend a Culinary Arts College. Attending a culinary training program to better your future is a great decision, and you should commend yourself for making the effort to research your schooling options.

In this day in age, it doesn’t matter how old or young you are. Remember that it is never to late to attend a culinary trade school to learn a valuable trade that can help you to earn a comfortable living, doing something that you love to do. Some culinary arts colleges offer courses that can be completed in 6 to 9 months, while other schools offer courses that can be completed at even a more accelerated rate. You can access most schools applications online, or can at least request an information package that will fill you in on their programs, schedules and locations.

Just like with any career, the amount of money you make annually greatly depends on a few key factors. Your education level, your experience level and your personal skill level. Remember that those who attain a Bachelors degree will earn almost twice as much per year as someone who only attains a high school diploma.  Below is a list of annual earnings of the middle 50% of people with culinary arts careers.

  • A cooking assistant can expect to see $23,500 - 29,500 per year
  • An executive Chef on average will earn between $58,000 - 88,000 per year
  • A restaurant Manager will pull in on average $38,000 - 56,000 per year
  • A sous Chef on average will make between $33,000 - 52,000 per year
  • A Line cook on average will earn between $20,000 - 26,000 per year

Culinary Arts Schools

Seems like cooking shows are all the rage now days, and there is a good living to be made if you are a good cook. If you are looking for a culinary arts college in California, you are fortunate, because California has become flooded with some of the best culinary schools, From San Francisco and Pasadena to San Diego you will find great culinary schools to attend. Learn to be a pastry chef, restaurant manager, or chef at anyone of the nations best culinary arts colleges in California.

California is not the only state to offer great culinary colleges. States like Texas, Arizona, New York and Florida offer top of the line culinary courses and training programs that will whip you into cooking shape in no time. Choose a culinary institute that is close to you unless you plan on living on campus. One culinary academy may offer on campus living, while others cooking schools may not. Living quarters are just a small fraction of the issues that will need to be dealt with when deciding on the culinary academy you will attending. You will need to also figure out your on and off campus expenses including tuition and living expenses.

Remember that not all cooking schools were not created equal and choosing a chef school should only be done after each school in question has been researched and if possible, physically visited first.
