MRI Technician Schooling

Many people confuse the job of an MRI technician, the same as that of an x-ray technician. They are close, but not exactly the same. In MRI technician uses magnetic resonance imaging, which basically are giant magnets and radio waves that allow you to see not only soft, but hard tissues inside the human body. So the basic difference between an MRI Tech and an x-ray tech or radiology technician, is that a radiologist uses radiation to basically do the same thing as an MRI technician. Therefore there is no radiation used during an MRI.
If you’re considering are suing a career as an MRI technician, and are still in high school, some of the courses you should consider studying our anatomy, physiology, chemistry, and microbiology. It is also a good idea to become familiar with medical terminology. A little online research will help bring you up to par on some of the basic terminology used in the medical field.
To pursue an MRI career, you will need to complete accredited MRI technician schooling programs. You will find many accredited programs at local community and junior colleges, along with many technical and vocational schools. If you are not sure whether or not the program you are wanting to attend are accredited, you can check through a joint review committee on education. This committee will provide you with a list of accredited programs.
After you have completed your basic 2 year MRI technician schooling, it is a good idea to attent a one year course that will get you a MRI Technology certificate. This certificate will allow you to land a good paying job almost immediately. Most trade schools will offer to help place you in a job as soon as you graduate. Your MRI technician schooling does not stop once you have graduated. Remember that you will go through on the job training when you are hired, and you will need to be retrained any time new technology releases new equipment.
